BB Open Night
BB Open Night
Corporal John Hamilton gives his personal experience at the recent Boys’ Brigade Open Night, that was held as part of the 175th Anniversary of the Company’s Church, The Mall Presbyterian Church.
Tonight was eventful and exciting. As soon as I walked up the stairs I was greeted with decorations. The two Boys’ Brigade flags were sitting upright in the hall beside a table of photographs and some roll books. You could see the names of previous boys and their attendance of each month marked with an ‘x.’ You could see old certificates and many photos of boys in the Boys’ Brigade decades ago. It is inspiring to see these photos and to read the wonderful certificates. I could even see some photos of our current BB leaders years ago. Every one was having a great time and enjoying themselves. This lets me see how far the BB has come. There was also a large BB Crest of an anchor carved out of wood with our motto on it, “Sure and Steadfast.”
We were also presented with the BB uniform from the past. It was amazing to see the difference over the years, for example our ties and belts, the boys’ used to wear a white haversack over their shirt.
In the Main Hall there were hundred’s of interesting photos of boys who had previously worked their way up through the ranks and years of BB. I also noticed some of the old Boys’ Brigade badges. It was interesting to compare them with our current badges.
To conclude, I have seen a lot from the BB Open Night and I am grateful to be in the Boys’ Brigade as it is a great experience and will help me in life.
